Hugo has worked as a Nurse Practitioner in urgent care at Healthy Now Clinics in Yakima for more than 2 years and prior to that as primary care provider at Yakima Neighborhood Health Services.
While he was finishing up his master’s degree he worked at Sunnyside Community Hospital as the director of the Emergency Department.
Hugo worked as a registered nurse in the emergency room at Virginia Mason Memorial for 6 years before deciding to further his education and become a Nurse Practitioner.
Hugo’s philosophy of care: As a primary care provider, Hugo believes in developing open and honest communication with his patients. Hugo believes that the more open dialog patients can have with providers, the more engaged the patient is in developing the most appropriate care plan designed to meet their individual needs, and ultimately better outcomes are achieved. Hugo believes in treating the whole patient and encourages healthy choices for each individual.
Outside of Steck: Born in Lisbon, Portugal, Hugo has had the opportunity that travel all over Europe and parts of Africa. He also has resided in London (England), Quebec (Canada), and Greece. Hugo met his wife in London, England and they resided in Edinburgh, Scotland for a short time prior to Hugo immigrating to the United States. Hugo along with his wife and three children, recently moved back to his wife’s family farm located here in Lewis County.
When not providing care for patients Hugo and his entire family love traveling, camping, fishing, hiking and spending their time outdoors. He also loves football and is a long time Seahawks season ticket holder.
